Qualifications Requirement:
Must be a resident of the United States

Must be at least 18 years of age

No record of violent misdemeanors, or theft, fraud, or felony convictions

Either an Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and two years minimum employment as a licensed investigator; a minimum of four years as a full-time firefighter and certification by the International Association of Arson Investigators; a minimum of four years experience as a full-time law enforcement officer; or a minimum of four years employment as a full-time licensed private detective (applies to an individual or an agency but not to an employee of an agency)

File a surety bond for $50,000

Two sets of fingerprints required for armed private detective applicants

Continuing Education: Armed private detectives are required to meet minimum requirements in the use of firearms at least once per year including four hours of instruction in firearm techniques and safety.
